Lylius Lookout hiking trail

The Lylius Lookout trail (about 2km route) is a great trail running route as well as short hiking trail. It  meanders and eventually leads you to the top of a hill which overlooks the farm. We have set up a lovely spot for a scenic picnic or sundowners; with car access and parking near the lookout spot.

The Buchu trail (about 1km route) leads you to the fragrant buchu fields and trigger an interest into the medicinal properties of South Africa's 'miracle herb’. Mostly used for medicinal purposes, buchu is an antibacterial, antifungal antioxidant, which has also been used as an analgesic (natural pain killer), antispasmodic (to treat stomach aches), as well as antipyretic (to treat fever, colds and flu).

Buchu oil is also used to give a fruit flavour to foods (mostly blackcurrent flavour). Buchu occurs naturally as a wild indigenous plant on the Krieberg farm, and you can also go on an adventurous search for wild buchu while hiking the Nieuwoudt Pass trail.

Rock art hiking trail

The Rock art trail (about 2km route) is a beautiful collection of ancient San rock paintings and carvings (collectively called rock art) in a rock shelter. The artwork depicts non-human beings, hunters, and half-human half-animal hybrids. The half-human hybrids are believed to be medicine men or healers involved in a healing dance. Several other images of animals are depicted there too.

The discovery of these rock paintings and carvings has all of us rethinking the origins of art and of humanity
